Qingdao IKEA Shopping Mall Steel‑Structure Project Case

Located in Laoshan District, Qingdao, the Qingdao IKEA Shopping Mall is the largest IKEA commercial complex in Shandong Province. It has a total construction area of 96,680 m² and a land area of 51,111.4 m². The building features a 4‑storey podium block equipped with a double‑deck large‑scale parking lot offering 1,040 parking spaces.

Steel‑Structure Implementation Scheme

1. Demand for Large‑Span Column‑Free Space
Large continuous exhibition and warehouse zones are required for the furniture retail mall with a single span up to 24 m. Conventional concrete beams carry excessive self‑weight and cannot achieve such span. Steel structures are adopted to realize the large‑space requirement.
2. Coastal Salt‑fog Corrosive Environment in Qingdao
The coastal atmosphere of Qingdao features high humidity and salt fog. Comprehensive anti‑corrosion treatments are essential for steel components to resist sea‑wind erosion and guarantee long‑term durability and structural safety.

3. Metal Enclosure Roof System
Prefabricated metal roof assemblies are installed above steel trusses, consisting of profiled steel sheets, thermal insulation layers and waterproof layers, adapted to high‑wind and heavy‑rain coastal conditions in Qingdao.
4. Specialized Anti‑corrosion Design for Coastal Environment
Multi‑layer anti‑corrosion coating processes are applied to steel members. Coating thickness is optimized for salt‑fog conditions to enhance corrosion resistance and service life of steel structures.
